Some good news

Just when I needed cheering up, I've had a couple of short story acceptances from The Weekly News and I've won a short story competition in Prima (although the photo they've used is of someone else!)

I also have a short story in February's Woman's Weekly Fiction Special - along with several of my writing friends. Yesterday I wrote a new story I'm quite pleased with, and a 100 worder for a competition.

The sun is shining too - so I went out in the garden this morning and found more to smile about.

Whilst things are going so well, I think I'll get on with a few more competition attempts. Humorous poetry perhaps? (shame there aren't competitions for poetry to make people groan and slap their heads, I'd be shortlisted every time)

Essay writing might not be quite the thing for me either. I do struggle when I'm forced to stick with the facts.

short story, that's more like it! There's not much time though and it does look like they might want sex in it. Better make it a quickie then! (sorry)

Thanks, Linda.

I'm not too bothered about the picture, Annalisa. It's tiny and the one they've used is of someone who looks quite nice.

Well done on the acceptances and thanks for cheering us up with the photos.

It really did feel like spring out there - smelled that way too as I have a couple of scented shrubs.

Wow! What a great week you've had, Patsy. Beautiful photos.

I saw your story in Prima - looked at the photo and thought that's not our Patsy!! But they'd used the picture of last month's winner I think. Well done :-) x

Congratulations on the short story acceptances!

It cheered me up taking them, L.

Patsy said...

Absolutely!

This week has been a lot better than last week.

Patsy said...

It being the previous winner makes sense - they just forgot to change it.

Patsy said...

I don't know why but daffs don't seem to grow here - still there are more than enough things which do to fill far more space than I've got.

Patsy said...

Thanks, Alex.

That is impressive. What kind of audience do those publication have, Patsy? I mean in terms of circulation.

Patsy said...

I don't know, Deborah. I'll see if Google does.

Patsy said...

Prima is 280,000 couldn't find figures for the others.

Deborah Walker said...

Wow. I knew it was going to be big. I just didn't know how big. That's immense.

Shame they've used another photo Patsy, but congratulations!

It seems like productivity is no problem for you; you deserve successes like these on the back of all that work.
If anyone ever gets a photo of me wrong, I hope they put somebody like Jennifer Aniston in my place!

Congratulations!

Patsy said...

At least they got my name right, Karen.

Patsy said...

Wouldn't mind having my bank balance mixed up with hers either!

Patsy said...

Thanks, Donna.

Congratulations on your timely good news. Love those hellebores. Mine always come up white.

Well done, you have been busy! And your garden's looking lovely.
With ref to your last post, I've been busy cutting out redundant words. I wrote too many for a competition entry and my over-productivity also meant I failed January's Write 1 Sub 1 challenge.

What a cheering and positive post Patsy - it's lovely to hear good news! Clearly you have the knack with TWN. I'm planning on entering the 100 words comp and just need to make up a word. Also didn't know about the Litro comp so thanks for that - terrible joke though...

Rena George said...

Blimey, Patsy. How good is that?
Huge congratulations for some wonderful achievements. xx

Patsy said...

Thanks, Vikki.

I have a range of different colours from purple to white as well as green flowered ones which I've raised from seed.

Writing too many words can be frustrating, Linda but better to do that and cut than to stare at a blank screen and write nothing.

Patsy said...

I make up words all the time, Tracy. My first drafts are littered with them. Hang on, I'll fetch you some from the piece I started this morning ... absecs, phhyio, carrige, and whoooaed. If you can get an idea from any of those you're welcome to them.

Patsy said...

I was rather pleased, Rena.

Linda D said...

Very true. Much easier to delete words than conjure them out of an uninspired mind!

Well done on all your successes, Patsy - hope the sun keeps shining on you lovely flowers.

Congratulations on your sales and your win, Patsy. I really enjoyed your story in Prima, and like Teresa, I was confused by the photo!

It's another lovely day here, Rosemary. Must get out in the garden.

Patsy said...

Thanks, Alice. As long as they get my address right to send the prize to, I expect I'll forgive them that one mistake.

Patsy said...

I hope you like the story, Kitty.

It is, Vikki - it really is.
